Week 29: The Atonement (Cambridge)

It was a stressful but good week. Time keeps on chugging along slowly but surely!

This week included teaching our friend Pedro who is 15 and a friend of a member here in Cambridge. The family he is friends with is so awesome. They're American so of course they're great. He's on date for the 22nd of September and is so awesome. After our lesson we had a Cafe Rio themed dinner and it was so great. Sister Willis even made the dressing!!! I was so happy!!!!!!

On Thursday we went and stopped by a self referral named Yasmin! She's from Jamaica and is so great. She was a wanting a "Mormon Bible" so we went by and taught her about the restoration and the book of Mormon. She talked out ears off but has been through some really crappy things in her life. She was very keen to it all and she came to church on Sunday for all 3 hours! She enjoyed it and plans to come next week as well. We will also be seeing her tomorrow! She's so solid!

We had Interviews with President and sister Checketts yesterday and they are literally the greatest people I have ever met. They are so nice and so loving. They remind me a lot of if mom and dad served as a mission president and wife. They are so great. It was the best interview I have ever had and just felt so much love and felt the spirit so strong. Couldn't help but let some tears out haha.

With that being said one of the things I've been studying a lot lately and could truly feel the power of it at Interviews is that the reality of the Atonement. I've truly come to understand and love few atonement this week. I know that it's real and Christ is there for us. I know he loves us all and knows us personally. I know that no matter what we've been through or what we're going through he is there for us. He's felt what we've felt and is a shoulder to lean on when all else fails. For every tear shed he's right there doing the same. He cries with us and rejoices with us. Even if we've turned away from Him he'll always be waiting with open arms to welcome us right back to Him. I love the Atonement so much and I love my savior Jesus Christ with all my heart.

I love you all so much and I'm so grateful for all the support I'm receiving all the time. You guys are the best. Love you so much.

Week 28: DIETER! (Cambridge)

Another one bites the dust. Still can't believe I'm in Cambridge! 19 years later and it's all come full circle. God is good!

Well it was a pretty good and standard week. Tuesday we had Zone Conference in Hyde Park! It is always great getting to go to London and be around other missionaries. It was a great meeting and very spiritually uplifting. We taught two new people on Wednesday, Chris and Rafael, and they are both now preparing for baptism at the end of September so pray for them! On Thursday we had a meeting in Cambridge with the missionaries in this area to go over some stuff that we need to do. Afterwards we got to go have Lunch with our senior couple at their flat. They made some delicious food per usual! That night we also had a dinner appointment with The Cook family. They have lived here for years and even know our family friends the Severts! What a crazy small world it is! He made a mean pot of chili and we had some good conversations. They are awesome!

Friday we did some finding with the sisters in the Park. Not too much success, but still got to talk to a lot of people. You get to meet people from all over the world! That evening we went out to Newmarket which is like the horse racing capital of the world! We met with a recent convert and just talked about how things are going with her. Kiana is awesome!

There was a baptism on Saturday in Bury! We went to that and it was so awesome as are all baptisms. We went to lunch afterwards as a district plus our zone leaders. After a delicious meal we went finding as a district in the Bury Boyz area. We found 5 new friends for them and it was a great evening!

Sundays are so great here. The ward is large and full of Americans! It truly feels like home. We had a great dinner appointment with the Ballards (From South Africa). They are amazing and funny as well! We ate a great meal and even got to play some UNO EXTREME!!! A very good Sunday. The evening was filled with planning for the upcoming week and that was basically my week!

Some exciting new that we found out this week.... Elder Uchtdorf will be coming to our mission on September 8th to be speaking to the London Missionaries!!!! How awesome is that ?! Having an apostle of God speaking to us?!??!?! Not to mention my favorite one! I am so excited! He is a Legend! So that was pretty exciting!

Another grind week coming up this week, but it should be a good one! Man I will be missing my first football season in 14 years.... I must really know that this church is true! With that being said GO YOTESSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Also them BK Boys better represent as well! Them yoties though are brewing up something special for this upcoming season. Love those guys.

Well I love you all!

Next week I have a meeting on Monday so my preparation day will be on Tuesday just so you all know, so I won't be responding until then! Until then Love ya!

Week 27: Good to be Home (Cambridge)

Wow what an absolutely wild week it's been. Moves week always feel like they take forever, especially when you go to a new area.

Tuesday morning I said one of the hardest goodbyes to a guy who will be one of my best friends for the rest of life...Robert Epperson. I love that man so much. He made the last 6 weeks not only the best 6 weeks of my mission, but the best 6 weeks of my life. The Maidstone district this last transfer will forever be a top 5 moment in my life. Love all of those missionaries. With that being said after that goodbye it was off to Cambridge. Traveling is the worst. Carrying 3 bags on trains and all over sucks let me tell ya! But I eventually made it to Cambridge where my boy Elder Welch and the senior couple picked me up!

Elder Welch is from Palo Alto, California and went to Utah State for a year before coming out. He's only been out for 6 weeks. Fun fact about him... He hit on Kourtni while at Utah State lol...small world.

Wednesdsy we were stuck around our flat because neither of us were allowed to drive yet so we went tracting around our flat and met a lot of great people. It was an exhausting day to say the least though.

Thursday was where the fun began. We went driving for 6 hours with a senior missionary to get us church certified to drive. So since then we've been driving all over and it's a party! Man it's so nice having a car. It makes life so much easier! But our area is huge! We've already driven 500 miles in less than a week!

Friday we had district meeting in Bury St. Edmunds! My new district consists of me, elder Welch, elder Allen(Oregon...been out a year), elder Poulsen(Utah...brand new), Sister Mendenhall(originally Virginia but left from Israel...been out 41/2 months), and sister Kallenborn(Germany...been out 14 months)! Pretty young district but we're already killing it as a whole. Big things happening this transfer with this group that's for sure. Friday night we had sports night where we played chair soccer with some less actives and non members. It was a party!

Saturday we drove for a total of 5 hours! We headed to a service project in the morning which was so far away, but it was a lot of fun. We did a lot of clean up at a park, but I got to be around a lot of Americans and military people so it was great. Felt like I was back home. There are a lot of great members here! After the service we headed back, changed, ate, and headed to do a baptismal interview for the Bury Elders investigator. She passed!! Then the fun began. We headed to my favorite people ever... the Geddes!!!! Man it was so great seeing a familiar face. I don't care but I broke the rule and hugged the crap out of all them. It was like hugging my mom so you can bet I enjoyed it. Being around them and getting to catch up made me so happy. I still can't believe I'm serving in the same district that they are in. Miracles haven't ceased!!!! It was easily one of the best days on my mission.

Sunday felt like a Sunday back home. A big ward and lots of Americans. It's so different than Hastings! We have sisters and a senior couple in the ward which is wild. It makes life so much easier. Loved It!

In terms of work we're basically starting from scratch because not much work got done at all here the last couple months which is tough, but that just means it's all up from here. So we have a lot of work ahead of us, but we got this. It's going to be a tough transfer but hard is good right dad?

Wild week, but glad it's over. It's been long and excited for another one to be here already. I love you all so much and thanks for all you do!

Week 26: Back to where it all began (Hastings ---> Cambridge)

Have miracles ceased? I say unto you nay!!!! Well let me just tell you how small of a world it is. We just got our moves yesterday morning and I'm headed to Cambridge right next to where I was born! It's been 19 years since I've been there and the Lord is sending me back all this time later to help bring others unto Christ there. How wild is that though? I'll be the district leader there and will even be getting a car I'll also be finishing up training a new missionary from California... his name is Elder Welch. Exciting times ahead! Also I'll most definitely be able to see our family friends the Geddes. God is good. When I found out this area would be in my mission this is the one place I wanted to go and it's happening

Don't get me wrong I'm so sad leaving Hastings, and yesterday was so hard saying goodbye to everybody but I'll definitely be back when the whole fam comes with me! Love the ward and everybody I've met these last 6 months in the beautiful land of Hastings.

This week has been so bittersweet. I've had so much fun in the final week here, but I'm sad to be leaving and saying goodbye to my amazing district and the friends I've made here. Love these missionaries so much and I'm so blessed to have gotten to know them. Look forward to lifelong friendships with the world's closest district. Shoutout to elder Rhee and Kápolnási for finishing there missions and going out with a baptism this last week. Love those guys so much.

Honestly this week was such a blur I'm not really sure what even went on. We had an awesome district meeting on Thursday and Our whole zone came to it. I put on a funeral for the elders as it was there final one and I made a slideshow with all these pictures form these last several months. Not gonna lie got me real emotional as well as everybody else. Who would've thought you'd have to say bye to such good friends on your mission. It was such a good meeting and just a really fun time. Let's be real everything is fun with this district.

We also had a bbq on the beach to celebrate one of the sisters birthdays and to say goodbye to the Maidstone elders! Dad Hruby was grilling some dogs for everybody. Nothing has changed from back home Haha!

This upcoming week is definitely going to be a big change in terms of everything. Looking forward to the next chapter. I'm grateful for the memories and relationships made as well as growing closer to my savior. I look forward to more to come and for my testimony to Continue to grow.

I wanna leave you with my testimony that families can be together forever. Christ is always there for us. Although we may turn away at times he is always there waiting for us. We can always turn back and he'll take us in with open arms. I know He lives loves each one of us. I know the book of Mormon is the word of God and that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The church is true and I know it without a doubt in my mind. Miracles haven't ceased.

I love you all and look forward to sharing all kinds of new memories in a new land until next time

With love,
Elder Hruby

Saying goodbye to the boys ;(

Week 25: Construction isn't for me (Hastings)

Felt like a quick week which is always the best! Hard to remember everything that happened since it went by so quick...

Last preparation day was spent on the beach again. We're enjoying the beautiful weather while it lasts and while I'm in a seaside town. It was a beautiful day. We played some beach volleyball which you know I was loving. It was a party of a day.

I played squash this week with an investigator which was a blast. It was so much fun. It's basically the same as Racquet ball and I'm playing again this week! The man we play with has been playing for years and wasn't too happy when we were beating him on our first time...beginners luck ;)

We had exchange with our zone leaders Thursday and Friday in Croydon...the stab capital of England it was so chuffing hot and muggy, but it was still a party. We almost got kicked out of the library while teach this man because his partner and him were fighting and she stormed our dropping f bombs and yelling so loud, so that was quite the awesome experience. Gotta love it

I literally did a construction job Saturday. We were helping a member out with remodeling his home and I was using a jackhammer the whole day breaking up concrete. Let's just say I could feel all that vibrating the next morning... I can still feel it today as well. At least now I know I don't want to go down that career path!

Elder Tollestrup emailed me today and he just became a zone leader in the Birmingham mission which is legit so shout out to him! He's a beast. We find out our moves next Sunday night so next p day will be very interesting to the say the least!

The blitz is over and I'm sad to see it go, but it was fun while it lasted. Have so much love for the book of Mormon and know it to be the word of God. Stay tuned for what's next!
Love you all so much and thanks for being awesome. Keep it class San Diego
